CITY MAKE IT BACK-TO-BACK HOME VICTORIES

6 April 2024

City made it back-to-back victories at the University of Bradford Stadium with a 1-0 triumph over Gillingham.

Brad Halliday marked his 100th appearance in claret and amber with the only goal of the game, a long-range curling effort on the stroke of half-time.

A stoic defensive effort from the Bantams in the second half held Gillingham at bay to earn all three points.

City began the better of the two sides, with Calum Kavanagh adamant he had been fouled in the box after some good interplay just three minutes in, shortly after teeing Andy Cook up to be denied by Jake Turner in the Gills goal.

City stopper Sam Walker was called into action 18 minutes in with a fantastic tip over the bar from an Oli Hawkins header, before minutes later, Daniel Oyegoke was called into action to clear an effort off the line from Tim Dieng.

Gillingham kept coming, and shortly after the half-hour mark Walker had to be alert again to pull off a fine reaction stop from Conor Masterson's header.

City’s defensive heroics were rewarded as Brad Halliday opened the deadlock with half-time approaching.

In the 43rd minute, on his 100th appearance for the club, he cut inside onto his left foot and curled an effort past Jake Turner from the edge of the area to give the Bantams the lead at the break.

City looked for a second and, 11 minutes into the second half, Bobby Pointon played Tyreik Wright through down the City left. He burst into the box and looked for the near post but his effort was beaten away by turner.

With 20 minutes to go, Cook - on his return from injury - forced another save from the visiting stopper. Jamie Walker's corner was deep to the far post, and Cook's header was well tipped over the bar.

Gillingham, looking for a way back into the game late on, burst through with substitute Josh Andrews, but after turning Oyegoke he dragged his effort wide of the far post, and the Bantams saw out the victory.
