ALEXANDER READY FOR SALFORD CHALLENGE

11 April 2024

Graham Alexander is anticipating a physical, aggressive game at Salford City on Saturday, as his Bantams return to action on the road.

City make the trip across the Pennines to Greater Manchester, after seeing Tuesday's scheduled trip to Barrow postponed for the second time.

Alexander highlighted Matt Smith to be a challenge for the Bantams to try and combat, should he play, with his ‘very physical presence’.

“We played Salford last, not long after Karl [Robinson] took over,” he said.

“They are very physical, very aggressive and gave us a very tough game.

“We were not sure how they were going to approach it. They have two different approaches, really.

“One is when [Matt] Smith plays up top, and they have a very physical presence up there.

“But, if he does not play, they have a lot of very mobile players who can play, and could go about their business in a different fashion. A lot depends on his selection.

“The biggest thing for me is how we play.”

Alexander makes his first return to Salford since his time as manager at the Peninsula Stadium, but insists there will be no love lost, and he is determined to get the win.

“It always means something, returning to a club you have previously played for or managed,” Alexander added.

“I have not been back there as a manager since I left.

“Obviously, the playing staff and other staff have changed massively, as that is the nature of this level, but there are many people there I am still friends with.

“It will be good to go back, but as soon as that whistle goes it is the same for everyone; we want to win.”
