CLAYTON FRUSTRATED WITH NEWPORT DRAW

Adam Clayton was disappointed to have left Newport County with just a point, after a positive first-half performance in yesterday's 1-1 draw.

The midfielder reflected on the recent schedule and how he enjoys “churning out games”, but is hoping City can come back stronger when they return to action in a week's time at the University of the Bradford Stadium.

Clayton said: “We played well in the first half. We got on all the second balls and played some good football.

“We are little disappointed in how they got their goal. It was a cross that got deflected and ended up in the corner.

“It is another point on the road. We are five unbeaten now. To concede the goal was disappointing - but it happens and we will go again.

“I enjoy the busy schedule. I like churning out the games. It is probably the best part of the lower leagues. You do not have time to think. You just keep at it.

“I think the body will benefit from a week’s rest, before we go into another massive chunk of games.

“We have had some tough trips recently. It has felt like we have never been off the coach for the past two weeks.”

The 34-year-old labelled the travelling City supporters as “top tier”, as over 600 Bantams made the trip across the border yesterday, and believes they can make the difference to “take them over the line” this season.

Clayton recognised the importance of taking the momentum generated over the past month forward, and continuing their unbeaten run when Hartlepool United travel to West Yorkshire next weekend.

“Our supporters are brilliant”, he added.

“It is a Premier League fanbase, everyone knows that. Home and away, it is top tier.

“I do not think anything more needs to be said about what the supporters do for this club.

“They travel home and away. The fans are brilliant, and hopefully they can take us over the line in the coming games.

“We have taken a good chunk of points from our last few and we will be more than happy looking back in a few days.

“It is another big game on Saturday. Our momentum is still there, we just need to make sure we win on Saturday.”
