CITY FOURTH IN LEAGUE TWO FOR SUSTAINABILITY

29 March 2023

City have been ranked fourth in the Sport Positive League Two Sustainability Table Matrix, and joint 16th out of the 72 EFL clubs.

For the first time, Sport Positive has systematically collated key environmental sustainability information for every EFL club into a table matrix, ranking sides on their green activity.

The leagues shine a light on activities being undertaken in the realm of environmental sustainability, as well as showing where additional progress could be made going forward, with specific concentration on operational impacts such as water, waste, energy, transport, food, education and policies. Published this morning (Wednesday) the table awarded the Bantams 10 points out of a possible 24. In the fourth tier, they finished only behind Crewe Alexandra and Rochdale (joint top, 12 points), and Grimsby Town in third with 11 points.

City were recognised for a joint Environmental Sustainability Policy with Bradford City Community Foundation, long-term plans to operate on solar energy at the University of Bradford Stadium and the club's Woodhouse Grove training base and an increased focus on recycling as well as reducing single-use materials.

Sub meters have been installed in banqueting rooms and for kitchen gas usage at Valley Parade, while LED and motion-censored lights have been installed where practical, and bike racks set to be introduced, encouraging active travel to the stadium.

Partnerships with the likes of Green Street and Planet League have been struck over the past 12 months, while an official sustainability partnership with Watt.co.uk will see further work, including the installation of EV charging points, completed.

City's partnership with First Bus across West Yorkshire sees supporters able to save 50% on travel to the University of Bradford Stadium on home matchdays while reducing fuel emissions and contributing towards the city's clean air zone, while in partnership with the Community Foundation, the club continues to educate youngsters in local schools on the importance of environmental care.

A more detailed breakdown of activity, including what City and other clubs were awarded points for, can be found in the full EFL Sport Positive Sustainability Table Matrix, HERE
