CITY SPREAD FESTIVE CHEER AT BRI

14 December 2023

City's first-team players spread festive cheer in the local community this week, with an annual visit to Bradford Royal Infirmary.

Held in partnership with Bradford City Community Foundation and Bradford Hospitals' Charity - the official charity partner of the Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - the trip saw players visit the children's ward at the BRI for the first time since 2019.

City players were on hand to put smiles on faces by speaking to patients on the children's ward, accident and emergency children's ward and the day care ward, handing out Christmas gifts along the way.

Presents had been ordered and arranged by the Bradford City Community Foundation, following donations from the club, each of the Bantams' first-team players and main partner Macron.

Among those present on the day were City forward Tyler Smith and defender Sam Stubbs, both visiting the hospital for the first time since joining the club.

On the children's ward, Smith said: "It is good to come here and put smiles on the kids' faces, and it makes us thankful for the health conditions we have.

"Seeing some of the children as ill as they are really hits you, so it is important for us to be here. It has been great to see the reactions from the parents and the children themselves."

Stubbs added: "It is really important and something, in a way, I look forward to coming here and doing when Christmas comes around.

"It is a bit of a shock when you see the condition some of them are in, so it is about us doing what we can to make them feel a little bit better.

"We have a responsibility as a club and as individuals to come here and do what we can to try and lift their spirits."

Lisa Williams, head of fundraising at Bradford Hospitals' Charity, said: "We are so grateful to everyone at Bradford City AFC for visiting Bradford Royal Infirmary - this was a huge highlight for staff and patients.

"Thank you for your wonderful collection of Christmas gifts to support our children’s wards and departments. Your kindness will make such a difference to young patients in hospital during the festive period."
