HUGHES ENCOURAGES CITY TO EXTEND GOOD FORM

Mark Hughes has called for more of the same from his side, as City recorded an emphatic 3-1 victory over Sutton United on Easter Monday.

The City chief recognised how the Bantams can "dictate their own future", and has encouraged his side to give maximum effort heading into the final six games of the season.

Hughes was delighted to see other players in the squad popping up with goals, as Scott Banks and Harry Chapman added to their tallies for the campaign along with top scorer Andy Cook.

“We can dictate our own future,” he said.

“We have to give it everything we have. This is our best chance in a few years, so we have to give our maximum and see where that takes us.

“We have to do our job from now until the end of the season, and that is what we will do.

“We need (other players to chip in). We cannot think (Andy) Cooky will score a hat-trick every game. He has the capacity to do that, but we cannot rely on that.

“He scored a great goal and hit the post twice. On another day, they go in. He is always a threat for us.

“We need to take advantage of the distraction that Andy is. We can use that as a opportunity. (Scott) Banksy and (Harry) Chappy did that today.”

The Welshman highlighted the support the Bantams received from the home fans today, crediting their encouragement, which proved a "massive help" to gain all three points today.

He is looking forward to keeping City’s momentum up ahead of Saturday’s trip to Rochdale after picking up four points from two games over the Easter weekend.

“Our fans were great,” Hughes added.

“They got behind us, and they recognised the boys were playing very well. Their encouragement was a massive help.

“We have come through with four points from the Easter period, which is a decent return for us.

“We will come back ready for the weekend, and we will go again against Rochdale.”
