Alex Gilliead expressed his delight at City’s character, as the Bantams came from behind to beat Grimsby Town 3-2 at the University of Bradford Stadium.
City’s No.11 recognised the importance of securing all three points in the day's early kick-off, and was proud to net City’s first goal of the afternoon, and his first of the season.
The 27-year old discussed how the feeling of bagging the Bantams’ opener was special for himself and his family, but admitted he wants to carry on “providing for the team”.
“It was very good win,” he beamed.
“Coming from behind, and having gone into the second half in a losing position, we did very well.
“We went behind, but we showed great character to fight back.
“We bounced back with three very good goals and that was important, as at this stage of the season, all you have to do is win games. It was a massive win for us.
“I am over the moon to have scored. My little lad was here for only the second time, so it makes it extra special.
“It is something I need to improve on, and something I need to keep doing.
“Hopefully, I can keep going and providing for the team.”
The Durham-born midfielder stressed how vital it was to put down a marker - before the rest of the division’s matches had kicked off - and believes it will breed confidence ahead of two equally crucial games across the Easter weekend.
City’s current highest appearance maker hopes yesterday’s three points will breed extra confidence within the camp, as he expects the Bantams “to take the tempo” into their upcoming trip to Crawley Town on Good Friday.
“It is good that we have dictated proceedings today,” Gilliead continued.
“It is huge in football, and that is what happens when you take it game by game. You are in a position to cause other teams to slip up.
“We are told to focus on ourselves but we will be watching the results come in.
“Those eight games will be massive for us. We can take momentum from that, and it will help us.
“We are confident we can go down to Crawley and grab another three points.
“It is absolutely vital we take the tempo into those upcoming games.
“They are massive games, and the win today will give us that confidence.
“We will go down and to Crawley and try our best to get another three points.”
