SMALLWOOD DEMANDS ‘RESPONSE’ AHEAD OF SALFORD TRIP

Richie Smallwood admits the Bantams must bounce back from last Saturday’s disappointment, as they look to record their fourth-straight away win at Salford City.

The City skipper skipper insists a response is paramount at the Peninsula Stadium to avoid the Stockport “blip” upsetting momentum within the camp.

He said: “The main message from Saturday is about responding and focusing on Salford.

“We had a little blip which meant we lost our first home game of the season, but right now it is all about improving and responding.

“Ideally, when you lose a game, you want the next one to come as quickly as possible so you can put it right.

“As a captain, it is all about getting the right message across and to not panic.

“It is one loss and before that we had been on a good run, and we know we have a big game coming up this weekend.

“We have had a full week to recover, and are ready to move on. We are just looking forward to the next game.”

Smallwood hopes to put down a statement of intent at the Peninsula Stadium, where City have lost on each of their only three visits.

The midfielder notes that City have already shown they can overcome less favourable records at Harrogate Town last month, and is looking forward to another similarly feisty encounter.

He added: “It is a great chance for us to bounce back. I think Salford are a fairly similar side to ourselves, with regards to our ambitions this season.

“We are two sides who try to play football and build from the back. It will be a very good game, a great spectacle.

“Ourselves and Salford are both trying to push for greater things in this league so, hopefully, we can put down a statement.

“Our record has not been great there over the last couple of years, so we will be hoping to put that to bed on Saturday.

“When you have not beaten at team at their ground, it can give the opposition confidence so we need to work on addressing that on Saturday, and moving forward.

“If we can prepare accordingly, Saturday will work well for us. We have done some great work this week, and our aim is to execute our game plan to perfection and get the three points.”
