HUGHES EXPECTS STRONGER PERFORMANCE AT SALFORD

Mark Hughes has urged his Bantams to take control of games to the best of their ability, ahead of his side's trip to Salford City on Saturday.

City are currently 6th in Sky Bet League Two ahead of the trip to the Peninsula Stadium, and Hughes admits he is comfortable with the current position as it encourages the team to push and develop further.

He believes the players will learn and evolve as a team after the setback suffered against Stockport last Saturday.

Hughes said: “On reflection, the defeat last Saturday came down to us and what we did not do well, but we have worked on that this week and will work on it tomorrow.

“The things we did not do particularly well, we will look to do better.

“It should not have an impact on us. We should be able to dominate and affect teams more than they can affect us.

“We have to make sure our execution is better than Salford’s, and that is what we will endeavour to do every game.

“We are content with our current position in the league. I think there can be added pressure if you are at the top at this stage, but we are well placed at the minute.

“There is a long way to go and a lot of lessons we have to find our way through. We are happy enough with where we are; we are well in the mix.

“There is more to come from us and there is always the potential to go on a similar run to the one we did before the Stockport defeat.”

Hughes again spoke highly of the strength in depth his squad carries, and how each player within it will be required to make important contributions over the course of the campaign.

He is looking for those handed starting berths to continue repaying his faith, with those given opportunities from the bench also seizing their chances.

The Welshman added: “Irrespective of the strength that we have, it is down to each individual player how they play. If they perform well, they will get rewarded; it should go without saying.

“If you have the responsibility of starting games often, then you have to make an impact and make sure you affect the game and cause problems for the opposition.

“That is the accountability and responsibility every player, and myself, has. The strength and quality and numbers is a good thing because we know we are going to need everybody to get out of this division.

“It is not a bad thing if players are looking over their shoulders. It can inspire them to perform harder, so it is healthy for the team.

“We have to bounce back from last week. We have to do that on Saturday, and we have the players and ability to do that.”
