BANTAMS ACHIEVE FAMILY EXCELLENCE STATUS FOR FIRST TIME IN FIVE YEARS

17 May 2022

Bradford City AFC has been awarded the EFL’s Family Excellence Status for the first time in five years, for the 2021/22 season.

Awarded for exemplary work in engaging families on matchday, the accolade has been achieved by a record number of 65 EFL clubs for their work over the past campaign.

This figure recognises continuous improvement and best practice in family engagement across the leagues and supports clubs’ efforts to attract and retain young fans of the future.

City were paid two random visits by EFL representatives throughout the campaign - one against Northampton Town in November 2021 and the other against Mansfield Town in February 2022.

The club was scored out of 10 on each of the visits across a number of different areas, with a first score of eight and a second of seven leaving the Bantams with a final score of 7.3 out of 10.

‘Substantial improvements to family experience’ saw City card an average score of seven out of 10, including eights on 'first impressions', 'travel' and 'inside the stadium', sevens on 'social media', 'refreshments', 'friendliness' and 'feeling valued', 7.5 on 'people', 6.5 on 'stadium vicinity' and 5.5 on 'retail'.

It is the only time City have been awarded the status over the past five visits, having failed in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 (no programme in 2021 due to COVID pandemic).

Now in its 14th year, the Family Excellence Scheme is an ongoing consultation programme, which aims to drive continuous improvement and best practice in family engagement across the leagues.
