Levi Sutton was thrilled to back playing football and delighted with the Bantams' resounding 4-1 pre-season victory over York City.

City coasted to a dominant win at the LNER Community Stadium as goals from Kian Scales, Andy Cook, Lee Angol and Kian Harratt helped continue their preparations for the league campaign.

Sutton, who provided the assist for his side's fourth goal, believes the York test will go a long way to building fitness ahead of the season opener at home to Doncaster Rovers in two weeks' time.

He said: “I thought the opposition had a good setup. We knew we were going to face a good side.

“We knew if we put the work and effort in, we would get a good result.

“I am delighted with the victory. With the squad we have got, we should be challenging this season.

“We have a very talented set of lads who are ready to kick on. I cannot wait to get going.”

The victory over the Minstermen marked Sutton’s return to action after missing the start of pre-season due to injury.

The midfielder, who recently signed a two-year contract extension, admitted he is relieved to back within the squad and playing under Mark Hughes for the first time in pre-season.

He added: “I was out with a hernia, but it is good to be back and with the lads instead of running on my own.

“I am just getting the fitness in and preparing for the season.

“You have got to put in the extra yards to improve fitness going in to the new season.

“We are starting to learn a lot more about what the gaffer wants, and implementing that into games.”
