SCALES BELIEVES LESSONS CAN BE LEARNT FROM DERBY DEFEAT

10 July 2022

Kian Scales believes the Bantams can improve, and showed they can learn from setbacks after yesterday's 2-0 defeat at home to Derby County.

The Bantams improved in the second half after Craig Forsyth and Tom Barkhuizen netted for the Rams in the first period.

Despite his side not getting on the scoresheet, the 20-year-old believes City responded to going behind in the first period.

He said: “Going into the second half, the gaffer told us to be more patient on the ball and build it from the back a bit more, waiting for them to come and press.

“I think, in the second half, we did that and built play better, further up the pitch.

“That is what we can learn from it, doing that at the right time.

“I think, performance by performance, we can build on it - and we can look back on today, see what we did well and what we can do better.”

The Bantams fielded a strong side which started with six home debutants, and Scales suspects the squad is coming together well and defeat to the Rams can help further settle them in.

He added: “Pre-season is going really well. We have got a good set of lads and are gelling really well.

“To say that was our second game, and our first at Valley Parade, it can get better from there.

“For some lads, it was their first at Valley Parade, and there were a lot of fans here.

“It is going to keep getting more full as it gets closer to the season, and that is what everyone wants.”

Scales and his team-mates return to pre-season action at Valley Parade on Tuesday July 19, against Sunderland (7.00pm). CLICK HERE to purchase tickets.
