YOUNG BANTAMS MAKE IT FOUR-STRAIGHT WINS

10 January 2022

City’s under-19s secured their ninth win in their last 10 EFL Youth Alliance North East outings - with a 1-0 win over Burton Albion to take them to within touching distance of the top of the table.

Olivier Sukiennicki netted the only goal of the game on the hour mark, to ensure the young Bantams claimed the points at St. George’s Park.

Martin Drury’s side went close to opening the scoring when Sukiennicki’s free-kick clipped the outside of the post early on.

The away team went close again later on in the opening period when Bobby Pointon cut inside and hit a left-footed effort which also struck the post, as the game remained goalless heading into the interval.

City had a chance to hit the front when Yahaya Tunkara unselfishly squared the ball to Dylan Youmbi who had shot cleared off the line by a Brewers defender.

The visitors made the breakthrough after 60 minutes, though, when Jack Wilson embarked on a run down the left flank.

The City substitute cut the ball back to Sukiennicki inside the penalty area, who slotted into the bottom corner of the net to give his side the lead.

The young Bantams successfully saw the game out to earn their ninth win in 10 league games, leaving them only three points off top of the table with two games in hand on leaders Lincoln City.
