SONGO’O SEES POSITIVES FROM ROCHDALE STALEMATE

23 January 2022

Yann Songo’o drew positives from a solid defensive display - following yesterday's 0-0 draw at Rochdale.

Neither team proved able to break the deadlock in what was a heavily injury-interrupted game for both sides at the Crown Oil Arena.

Songo’o admitted it was a difficult game for City, but felt the clean sheet and point on the road could be seen as positives.

He said: “It was a really tough game. In the first half, we dominated and controlled the game, but we were just missing that goal.

“In the second half, we knew they were going push on with them being at home.

“They played on the counter but, as a team, we dealt really well with what they were trying to create.

“We would gain momentum and then another injury happened which made the game a little bit more difficult, but we kept concentration for the 90 minutes.

“If you keep clean sheets, you are going to win games, and that is the attitude we need to take on from this game.

“We take the positives, and they were the clean sheet and point.”

The Frenchman also touched on how he is always willing to be a versatile player for the team as well as his defensive partnership with Paudie O’Connor.

Songo’o was also keen to heap praise on the 2,563 travelling supporters who outweighed Rochdale's home support.

He added: “I feel comfortable playing in midfield and at the back.

“I have said before that I will play in any position the gaffer wants me to, and will always give 110%.

“Playing alongside Paudie makes it easy for me and we have a good connection, so it is not a problem which position I play in the team.

“The fans have been amazing all season with us, and they really helped us get a clean sheet and a point.

“There were plenty of positives to take from this game and, hopefully, we can take that into Tuesday night.”
