TRUEMAN BEMOANS 'NAIVE' BANTAMS

22 February 2022

Caretaker manager Mark Trueman criticised his side's 'naive' decision making, following this evening's defeat to Harrogate Town.

The Bantams' succumbed to Town’s set-piece threat at the Utilita Energy Stadium, with goals from Warren Burrell and Lewis Page then added to by Jack Diamond.

Trueman believes the goals were avoidable had the correct decisions been made out of possession.

He said: “We were just a bit naive in our decision making. We should not have given away a free-kick on the edge of the box, and we have to stop the counter attacks.

“There were four players around their player on the counter-attack, and he somehow got through and forced the corner.

“We have got to make better decisions without the ball.

“We just need to be better in the key moments and tonight, we were not.”

Despite having 25 attempts at Mark Oxley’s goal, City were unable to add to Matty Foulds’ early strike, which came just 12 minutes in.

Trueman insists City must take the chances they create and take advantage of spells they have on top of games, if results are to improve.

He added: “When we are at their end, we really need to punish them.

“At 1-1, it looked like we would be the team that was to go on and win the game.

“We have got to defend better and, when we are on top of games, we need to punish teams.

“We created 25 chances on goal but only scored one. It is the story of our season.”
