SUTTON FRUSTRATED WITH ‘POOR’ EXETER DEFEAT

12 February 2022

Levi Sutton was eager to express his disappointment following City’s “poor” 1-0 defeat at home to Exeter City.

The Bantams conceded just before the interval to Kieran Phillips' chip, which condemned them to a loss at the Utilita Energy Stadium.

The midfielder felt City started the game well but bemoaned his and his team-mates’ overall display.

He said: “It was poor. We started the game well. In the first 15 minutes we were bright and came out of the blocks, but we just did not turn up for the rest of it and got what we deserved.

“We had a good result on Tuesday away at Stevenage and we said the right things before the game, but it was just a poor performance altogether.

“We never got at it, and it just fizzled out towards the end.

“We conceded a poor goal and then were chasing the game. We lacked any composure and a real stand in the game.

“We have already played them a few times this season and have played well. We have not got the results but played a lot better. We just let ourselves down in this one. It was just a frustrating game.”

Sutton also stressed the importance of the Bantams picking up wins and going on a positive run of form sooner rather than later.

Derek Adams’ side travel to Boundary Park to take on Oldham Athletic next Saturday before having three-consecutive home games.

He added: “We all talked about this game as one that could be a springboard to our season and help us put wins together.

“We have a week to work hard and figure out where want to be and what we want to do this season.

“A team like us should not be in this division. We need to put wins together and if we do not do that now, we will not be where we want to come the end of the season.”
