OPPOSITION GUIDE: HARROGATE TOWN

22 February 2022

Harrogate Town will travel to West Yorkshire for a Sky Bet League Two fixture set for 7.45pm this evening.

It was a Jack Diamond double that secured the points for the hosts on a cold February Saturday in the season's reverse fixture.

Since then, Town have hit a difficult spell, drawing one and losing two - the most notable of which coming against Exeter, who sent them home empty handed after a last-minute winner.

We have put together an Opposition Guide to give you all the information you need to know about our 33rd league opponent of the season.

TRANSFER ACTIVITY

The North Yorkshire side optimised the loan market in the January window, signing four players on loan and Leon Legge on a permanent deal.

INCOMINGS: Calum Kavanagh (Middlesborough, loan), Lewis Richards (Wolves, loan), Brahima Diarra (Huddersfield, loan), Josh Austerfield (Huddersfield, loan), Leon Legge (Port Vale).

ONES TO WATCH

Jack Diamond

The 22-year-old is already something of a legend at Town - despite only featuring in loan spells - after scoring the winning goal at Wembley to secure their promotion.

Despite his age, Diamond has 15 goals in 25 appearances for the North Yorkshire side, meaning he has been directly involved in a goal during 60% of his games.

George Thompson

Thompson has been an ever-present during Town’s glory years since joining the club in 2017.

The 29-year-old has made over 150 appearances for the North Yorkshire club, enjoying two promotions and featuring in three different divisions.

Thompson has maintained a level of consistency throughout his tenure at the club, with this season proving no different - scoring four goals and providing a further five from midfield.

Mark Oxley

Oxley joined the club at the start of the season after a five-year spell with Southend United.

‘The Ox’ put in a stellar performance in the reverse fixture, pulling off a number of remarkable saves to help Town win the game while retaining a clean sheet.

The 31-year-old has featured for a number of sides throughout the UK, playing his way through the football pyramid - representing Livingstone, Walsall and then-Premier League side Hull City.

CAPTAIN

Josh Falkingham is Town’s most decorated captain of all time having led them to two league titles and FA Trophy success.

Falkingham moved to Wetherby Road from Darlington in 2018 and was named captain in his first season at the club.

The 31-year-old was born and raised in West Yorkshire, starting his career with Leeds United's academy before a move north of the border to join St. Johnstone.

MANAGER

Simon Weaver is very familiar with the dugout at Wetherby Road as he is in the midst of a near-13-year stint with Town.

Son of owner Irving Weaver, the father-and-son duo have brought unparalleled success to Harrogate - earning the club’s first promotion to the EFL.

Weaver is the longest-serving manager in England’s top four divisions and will likely continue to be so for a significant tenure.
