Matty Foulds believes the Bantams can use recent setbacks to their advantage, as City return to Sky Bet League Two action with a Boxing Day trip to Carlisle United.

The full-back insists City are “itching to play again”, sharing his frustration after outings against Gillingham and Rochdale fell victim to the weather.

Foulds, who has been a mainstay in the City 11 after an injury to Liam Ridehalgh, believes it is a “blessing in disguise”, and that the Bantams’ anticipation to get back playing will help them in Cumbria.

He said: “I feel like we have forgotten about those defeats now. We just want to get back out there. Those defeats and postponements have been disappointing, but that is why we are itching to get out there so much.

“It was disappointing. We built up all week for the game, then when it came to Saturday, we found out the game was off, which was frustrating, but out of our hands.

“We did get a little bit of work in, but it is important to clear your head, forget about that game for the moment, and focus on the next one.

“It is getting to the point now where we just need a game. You can do all that work for it just to get cancelled, so we just want to put all our work into a match now.

“I think the games being called off is a blessing in disguise. It is making us more hungry to go out and play, but also when we are playing every Saturday and Tuesday in the New Year, it will give us the chance to get a winning streak together.

“Everyone in the changing room is eager and ready to get out for Boxing Day.”

The 24-year-old has urged the Bantams to prove a point against a Carlisle side with similar ambitions to City, and not to underestimate them.

With over 1,000 City supporters already set to be in attendance in Cumbria, Foulds, who will be playing in his first-ever Boxing Day game, hopes to give something back to the loyal supporters, and give them a “nice Christmas present”.

The left-back is closing in on 50 appearances in claret and amber, and with 47 games currently under his belt, he believes he is establishing himself on and off the pitch.

Foulds added: “We need to go to Carlisle and get a result. That is the most important thing.

“We cannot underestimate them; we know the dangers they possess. We will get at them and try and chase three points on the road.

“I have never played on Boxing Day. It will be a good game, but also very tough. The aim is to go there and gather the three points.

“I am sure the fans will be excited for the game. Boxing Day games always have that special little atmosphere.

“Ideally, we would like to give something back to the fans who make the trip. I am sure they are looking forward to it as much as we are and hopefully we can we give them a nice Christmas present.

“I am on 47 games for the club now, so getting closer to 50, which is great for me.

“I feel more a part of the team now. When I first came in, I was not in the first-team picture much, but to get to almost 50 games makes me proud.

“I took criticism and compliments but never really gave it out. I feel like I am in a position within the team where I can do that now, and offer advice to someone else.

“I just cannot wait for another game, and I am looking forward to Boxing Day.”
