HUGHES: 'WE NEED TO TAKE OUR CHANCES'

Mark Hughes felt his City side deserved to take all three points following last night's 1-0 defeat at Colchester United, but must start taking their chances.

The Bantams boss felt hard done by with the officiating at the JobServe Community Stadium towards the end of the encounter, but admitted that was no excuse.

He insisted his side need to do more to be able to win games, though is confident the Bantams can pick up ahead of Saturday’s trip to the Hartlepool.

He said: “We did not deserve to lose that game. I think everyone here or watching at home could see that we were the ones trying to win the game.

“We had total dominance, at times. The home side were just looking to play on the break. They never really caused us too many problems, until the final five minutes, and they got their reward.

“We had clear-cut chances created by good football, and did not take them.

“We feel a little aggrieved because of the referee’s performance, but in terms of what we tried to do, I thought we did okay.”

Defeat at the JobServe Community Stadium was City’s first in three matches, and Hughes believes his side will pick back up, as they look to collect a first three points on the road in the north east at the weekend.

“These away defeats will not affect our confidence,” Hughes added.

“We played well enough to win this game and, come the weekend, we will go again and I know we will play well again.

“I do not think form will be an issue. Taking our chances in games has gone against us. We can not give up, as the away side.

“We forced Colchester to speculate long shots but when we gave them the chance to put the ball in the box, they punished us.

“It was a bad result in bad circumstances, but I am happy with the performance and we go again on Saturday.”
