HUGHES EXPECTS MORE HUNGER AGAINST HARTLEPOOL

City boss Mark Hughes has called for his Bantams to recover from late heartbreak at Colchester on Tuesday night and put in a more consolidated showing against Hartlepool United tomorrow lunchtime.

Hughes’ side beat the Pools last season at the Suit Direct Stadium but, without a win on the road this campaign, the Welshman hopes City can convert dominance in matches into victory.

He said: “It was a disappointing result on Tuesday. I did not feel we did enough to get beat. When a ball comes into your box, whether it is the first or last minute, you have to able to defend it.

“We got the organisation a little bit wrong, in terms of responsibilities. We have to make sure we understand different circumstances that present themselves. We have to react quicker, and are working on the little details that are letting us down.

“We have a lot of domination in our possession. As a team, we need to be in the right areas with the right pass.

“We average 15 to 17 shots on goal per game, but not all are on target. Bringing that percentage up will bring opportunities to score and bring three points.

“When you have not got your nose in front, you can leave yourself open. We have got to be able to create and convert the chances we know we are capable of, then teams will find it difficult when we can control games. That is the aim on Saturday.”
