OPPOSITION GUIDE: NORTHAMPTON TOWN

8 April 2022

The Bantams are back in Sky Bet League Two action this weekend as they travel to Northampton Town for a 3.00pm kick-off on Saturday.

The Cobblers will be the seventh team in the top 10 City have faced in their last eight fixtures, six of which occupy a spot in the top eight.

Only leaders Forest Green Rovers have conceded less goals than Northampton, with only 34 goals scored against them this season.

Jon Brady will be looking to return to winning ways this weekend after a damaging defeat to fellow promotion-hopefuls Mansfield Town last Saturday.

We have put together an Opposition Guide to give you all the information you need to know about our 40th league opponent of the season.

TRANSFER ACTIVITY

The Cobblers brought six players into the club in January, with one player leaving and one returning to his parent club.

INCOMINGS: Chanka Zimba (Cardiff, loan), Tyler Magloire (Blackburn, loan), Idris Kanu (Peterborough, loan), Josh Eppiah (Leicester, loan), Louis Appere (Dundee), Beryly Lubala (Blackpool).

OUTGOINGS: Kion Etete (Tottenham, end of loan), Dylan Connolly (Morecambe).

ONES TO WATCH

Mitchell Pinnock

Pinnock tops the assist charts for the Cobblers with 12 to his name this season.

The winger has contributed little over 40% of Northampton’s goals this season, notching seven goals to add to his assists.

Pinnock moved to Sixfields last summer after rejecting a new contract at Kilmarnock and is in with a shout for best ‘freebie’ of the season.

Jon Guthrie

Playing on the left side of a strong back four, Guthrie has excelled under Jon Brady’s style.

Only Forest Green have conceded less than the Cobblers thanks in no small part to Guthrie’s reliability, having featured in 42 games this season.

The full-back has also chipped in with six goals, providing one assist.

Sam Hoskins

Hoskins is the club’s top goal-scorer this season with nine goals under his belt, contributing a further five assists.

The forward’s impressive season earned him a new two-and-a-half-year deal in February.

The 28-year-old scored in the Cobblers' Sky Bet League Two Play-Off Final victory against Exeter City.

CAPTAIN

Joseph Mills captains Northampton, having joined the club in the summer of 2020 following a spell with Forest Green Rovers.

Another graduate of Southampton’s academy, Mills had spells with Reading and Burnley before spending two years in Australia with Perth Glory.

Mills operates primarily as a left-back but is comfortable playing on the left of midfield and has amassed over 300 senior appearances, scoring 17 goals.

MANAGER

Jon Brady is the man in charge at the Northampton Town Stadium after earning his stripes at Brackley Town and in charge of the Cobblers' under-16 and under-18 outfits.

Brady spent his playing days fluctuating between the EFL and non-league before his eventual move into management.

Australian-born Brady took over the managerial position initially on an interim basis before he was appointed manager in March this year.
