HUGHES STILL LOOKING FOR PLAYERS TO IMPRESS

Mark Hughes insists there are still opportunities for his players to impress between now and the end of the season, ahead of Saturday’s trip to Northampton Town.

The Bantams travel to Sixfields this weekend 15th in the table, where they will take on the promotion-chasing Cobblers.

Hughes does not want his players’ standards to drop, and is keeping a keen eye on their performances as preparations for 2022/23 continue.

The City manager said: “Clearly, there is still an opportunity for players to impress until the end of the season. That is why they have to bring the edge to their game.

“We need to give players the opportunity to show they can deal with expectations, and there is a big chance for that at a club like Bradford City.

“I have no worries in that regard, and have seen no drop-off in commitment or energy.”

After last weekend’s defeat at Bristol Rovers, Hughes is expecting a different challenge in the form of Jon Brady’s men.

The Welshman does however know Saturday’s hosts will enter the clash with plenty to play for, and therefore looks forward to another difficult encounter.

He added: “Northampton will be more direct than Bristol, but teams have a lot to play for, so we have to test ourselves against them.

“It is good for me, as I get a real indication of what the best teams in this league are like.

“We need to see what do they do, and how and what to do to be successful at this level.”
