Mark Hughes was pleased with his side's improved second-half performance, following this afternoon’s 0-0 draw with Northampton Town.

Despite both teams hitting the woodwork, neither proved able to break the deadlock as the match ended goalless.

Hughes was satisfied at having taken home a point from a side flying high in the table.

He said: “I was more pleased with the second half. I thought we really took the game to Northampton and finished stronger.

“If it was not for a fantastic save from their goalkeeper, I thought we could have nicked it at the end.

“In the first half, I felt we were lacking a little bit of care with the ball in good areas, and that was where our play broke down.

“However, I thought we addressed that in the second half well and took a good point away from home against a team trying to get into the play-off places.”

Lee Angol came off the bench in the second half to make his first appearance since the 0-0 draw at Rochdale in January, and Hughes was pleased to have the 27-year-old forward back.

The City manager added: “It was good to see Lee Angol coming back.

“I thought he did really well and showed the quality he has. Technically, he is a good player.

“It is only injuries that has hampered him in his career as he has undoubted quality, and I was pleased to be able to give him game time.”
