BANTAMS TAKE POINT FROM NORTHAMPTON

9 April 2022

The Bantams left high-flying Northampton Town with a point, after an entertaining 0-0 draw at Sixfields.

Both sides had chances, with goalkeepers at each end called into action, but neither side were able to break the deadlock.

The hosts had the first chance of the game in a first half they had the better of, when Louis Appere was played through on goal but his finish rolled just wide of the post.

Just minutes later, Sam Hoskins created space for himself to shoot on the edge of the box, forcing Alex Bass into a save.

City almost had a great opportunity to take the lead on the break when Dion Pereira played through to Jamie Walker, who tried to square the ball to Andy Cook, but he was denied by a last-ditch challenge from Joseph Mills.

In the 28th minute, Yann Songo’o made a superb block for the Bantams to deny Scott Pollock, before Mitch Pinnock's shot from distance curled just wide of the post.

At the very start of the second half, Appere was played through again but his shot was tame and comfortably saved by Bass.

Only minutes later, Northampton somehow did not score, as Bass was again forced into multiple saves and the hosts hit the crossbar before City were able to clear their lines.

In the 80th minute, Bass made another incredible save to keep the score level, denying Hoskins from close range, before the Bantams - who probably had the better of the second period overall - looked to end the game strong and clinch all three points.

Substitute Callum Cooke forced Liam Roberts into a fantastic save, tipping his venomous shot onto the bar late on, before Cooke's final ball was played just behind Charles Vernam in a promising-looking City break, as the game ended goalless.
