CITY HELD BY BARROW

18 September 2021

The Bantams battled back to earn a point in Sky Bet League Two with a 1-1 draw against Barrow.

Charles Vernam’s second league goal of the season ensured Derek Adams’ men are still yet to lose at home in the league this season, after the visitors had taken lead in the opening period.

The Bluebirds came close early on with a teasing ball from Patrick Brough, who found Offrande Zanzala in the six-yard box - but the forward’s header failed to find the back of the net.

Shortly after the 20-minute mark, the visitors struck first. A long-range effort from Josh Kay clipped the inside of the post before crossing the line and putting Barrow in front.

City had a flurry of chances in the build-up to half-time - with the lively Vernam coming closest. It was to no avail though, as City trailed at the break.

Vernam began the second half as he ended the first, equalising for the Bantams just shy of 60 minutes in.

The winger met Gareth Evans' cross that hung in the air to power home and put Derek Adams’ men on level terms.

It was City who came closest to taking all three points, as they piled on pressure in the closing stages.

Vernam came within inches of winning it for the Bantams in the 87th minute when running through on goal, but his shot deflected agonisingly wide of the post meaning it finished all square.
