SUTTON BEMOANS BELOW-PAR SECOND-HALF DISPLAY

24 November 2021

Goal-scorer Levi Sutton was frustrated with City’s second-half performance, following last night's 2-1 defeat away to Tranmere Rovers.

Sutton’s goal ensured the Bantams took a lead into the interval, but the hosts netted twice inside the opening 11 minutes of the second period – which meant Derek Adams’ side suffered defeat at Prenton Park.

While the 24-year-old praised his side’s performance in the opening 45 minutes, he insists the way they played in the second period is what cost them on the evening.

He said: “We are all disappointed. This is a difficult place to come. We managed to be 1-0 up at half-time, and silenced their crowd.

“When you come to a place like this, you need to soak up the pressure, and we did that well in the first half.

“It is about controlling the game and seeing out certain situations. We conceded one and then another, which got the crowd up and it became a different game.

“We just did not turn up in the second half, and if you only show up for one half in this league, you get punished. Ultimately, we came away with nothing.”

The midfielder took time to thank the travelling City supporters who made the trip to Birkenhead on the evening, and was disappointed to not be able to send them away happy.

He hopes he and his team-mates can repay them at Scunthorpe United on Saturday - where over 1,500 Bantams are already set to appear.

Sutton added: “You see the supporters come here on a Tuesday night. It was a massive following, and I am just disappointed that we let them down.

“There are no two ways about it, we now have to win on Saturday.

“We have enough quality in the squad to be competing at the top level, and we have showed that in recent games.”
