SELLARS EXPECTING DIFFICULT NEWPORT CHALLENGE

8 March 2021

Conor Sellars insists the Bantams will take the threat of Newport County as seriously as they would in any other fixture - ahead of tomorrow’s meeting at the Cardiff City Stadium.

City face the Exiles in South Wales, with the ‘home’ side having lost five of their last 10 matches.

However, despite an “inconsistent” run of form since the turn of the year, Sellars still expects Michael Duff’s side to prove stiff opposition.

The Bantams’ joint manager said: “We cannot afford to treat this game any differently to how we would have done, had we have played Newport before the new year.

“They are a good side who can mix up their way of playing quite a bit.

“We know what they are capable of, and what kind of a team they are, so that is what is in our minds ahead of the game.

“They have a strong squad and will cause teams problems, so we are expecting a good game.”

Sellars is also relishing the chance for his Bantams to play in a Sky Bet Championship stadium - after the fixture was moved from Rodney Parade to the Welsh capital.

Despite feeling the better quality of playing surface will work in his side’s favour, he is adamant the mindset of the players has not changed.

“It is just another game, for us,” Sellars added.

“The mindset of the players has not changed, and they just want to go out there as always and get a result, which is what our concentration is on.

“The pitch will be in good condition - and suits us with regards to trying to keep possession of the ball - so I am hoping that will help and benefit us.”
