BANTAMS FINISH PRE-SEASON WITH ACCRINGTON TRIUMPH

31 July 2021

City ended pre-season on a high with a 2-0 victory over Sky Bet League One side Accrington Stanley.

A first-half double from Andy Cook was enough for the visitors to secure the win at the Wham Stadium.

The Bantams broke the deadlock with four minutes on the clock when Cook went on a promising run before producing a neat left-footed finish into the far corner.

Derek Adams’ men had a great opportunity to double their advantage when Callum Cooke found Lee Angol in space, but he struck his effort wide of the goal.

City added to their lead when Cooke’s corner was headed in by Cook - who netted his second after just 21 minutes.

The away side went close again when Angol won the ball back high up the field, but shot wide from a tight angle.

At the beginning of the second period, Angol went close again after he was picked out by Cook but struck his effort narrowly off target.

Stanley went close to pulling a goal back when a swift counter attack ended with Colby Bishop's attempt being saved by City’s substitute goalkeeper Richard O’Donnell, as the hosts looked for a way back into the game.

Despite some late pressure from Stanley, the Bantams were able to see the game out and finish their pre-season campaign on a winning note.
