City are in action at the Utilita Energy Stadium for the first time in 2021 - hosting Barrow in Sky Bet League Two. 

The Bluebirds were promoted from the National League last season and currently sit in 21st place - three points off the bottom of the table.

We have created an Opposition Guide to take you through all of the key information you will need to know ahead of Saturday’s visitors to West Yorkshire.

TRANSFER ACTIVITY

Barrow have strengthened their squad with 10 new arrivals during the January window, with three players heading out of the exit door.

ONES TO WATCH

Josh Kay

Josh Kay is Barrow’s joint-leading goal-scorer of the 2020/21 campaign - registering five goals in all competitions. 

Kay is a product of the Barnsley academy - playing for the Tykes once before signing for Chesterfield on a permanent basis. The 24-year-old midfielder joined Barrow from The Spireites in 2018 and has made 98 appearances for the Bluebirds. 

Dior Angus

Angus joined the Bluebirds on loan from Port Vale at the start of 2019 before putting pen to paper for a permanent contract later that year.

The 27-year-old played a pivotal role in Barrow’s promotion into the EFL, scoring 10 goals in 36 matches.

Neal Eardley

Eardley has enjoyed playing most of his professional career in the EFL, including lengthy spells with Oldham Athletic, Blackpool and Lincoln City. 

The experienced defender signed for Barrow on loan from Burton Albion on January 14 and has played once since joining the club.

THE CAPTAIN

33-year-old Sam Hird has racked up 460 professional appearances across his career so far, for clubs such as Grimsby Town and Chesterfield.

He won promotion to the Sky Bet Championship with Doncaster in 2008, beating Leeds United in the play-off final.

The Doncaster-born defender signed for the Bluebirds in January 2019 from Alfreton Town and has featured 63 times for Barrow, achieving promotion with the club last season.

THE MANAGER

43-year old Michael Jolley was appointed manager of Barrow at the end of last month, following David Dunn’s departure. 

Jolley has spent most of his working life as a banker after spending time during his playing career with Barnsley.

He started off his managerial career at Stirling University before moving on to Burnley’s youth team, AFC Eskilstuna and Grimsby Town. 

In his first four matches with the Cumbria-based outfit, he has picked up seven points from a possible 12.

LAST TIME OUT

Barrow secured their fifth win of the season with three points against Scunthorpe United at Holker Street.
