ADAMS: ‘WE WANT TO TURN DRAWS INTO WINS’

16 December 2021

Derek Adams insists his side must “turn draws into wins” - ahead of their trip to Carlisle United in Sky Bet League Two this weekend.

The Bantams have now drawn six of their last seven league games and 11 in total - the most in the division.

Adams stressed the importance of his side taking their chances and picking up three points when travelling to Brunton Park.

He said: “We go there looking to win the game. We have obviously drawn too many at this moment in time, and we want to get out of that cycle.

“We have drawn too many games in the league and that is the reason why we are not in a better position.

“We have only lost two of the last 12 league games, but we want to turn draws into wins.

“If we have to analyse our performances, we look at statistics and how many times we are getting into the final third.

“We have just not been able to get the winning goal and the three points, and that is the only turning point we need.

“We have shown in games that we are strong and can create chances, but the only problem is that we are not taking the big chances when they have come along.

“It is about winning football matches. There are still plenty of points to play for, and a long way to go.”

The Scotsman did go on to praise his side for the way they have responded to setbacks so far this season.

City have come from behind to pick up a point in four of their last six matches and, Adams is adamant his players will need to show this character throughout the rest of the campaign.

He added: “When we have lost a goal, the players will be hurt at that moment in time.

“A number of times this season, we have conceded when in the ascendency, and the team has been pushing forward, which has been a sucker punch, but they have always shown they can get themselves together and get back into a match.

“We are going to need to show character throughout the season, because this is a difficult league.

“We are going to be in circumstances where we have to pull ourselves together and get a winner.

“We have been trying to do that and are now starting to get players back to fitness, and we are in a much better position than we were a number of weeks ago.”
