ADAMS PLEASED BY SPIRITED PERFORMANCE

11 December 2021

Derek Adams credited his side's fight after their 2-2 draw with Sutton United - despite losing captain Niall Canavan after half an hour.

Adams hailed the endeavour of the ten men who were left to complete the final hour without their skipper, as the Bantams came back from a goal down on two occasions.

The Scot recognised his side had an uphill battle ahead of them after Canavan’s dismissal in the 31st minute, and gave full credit to the spirit of the dressing room for the point earned at home.

He said: “I am extremely proud of the boys, because it was a difficult afternoon for them after going down to 10 men.

“They had to show a real fighting spirit, and that is what they did. They all, to a man, gave that performance.

“The character in the dressing room showed we had fighters and winners. I have spoken about that, and today we had people who were willing to run and work hard for the team.

“We certainly had 10 players on the pitch after half an hour who gave us everything.”

Adams was keen to acknowledge the unwavering support from the terraces, after the City faithful roared their team on to a point.

The City boss believes that the endeavour and spirit shown on the pitch was reflected by the crowd and was privileged to bask in the standing ovation at the final whistle.

He added: “The magnificent supporters stood to applaud the players off the park because they knew they were up against it after half an hour.

“They can see the energy and endeavour that they put into the game.

“That is very pleasing for every single Bradford City fan. It is not the best footballing team that gets you out of the division, it is the best team.”
