ADAMS EXCITED FOR RETURN TO ACTION

30 December 2021

Derek Adams is looking forward to the Bantams’ return to action on New Year’s Day - following a three-week absence - ahead of his side's trip to Barrow.

City’s return will see them take the field for the first time since their spirited 2-2 draw with Sutton United, and Derek Adams is eagerly awaiting their first game of the new year.

The Scot insists his side is ready for the trip to Cumbria, admitting the return of a number of players from self-isolation affords him a squad number over the EFL requirement.

He said: “Everyone is excited to get back to it. The players were away from the training ground for a long time but, when they have come back, they have all been ready to train and play games.

“We have got options available to us. I have a strong idea of the ones I would like to play in the game, but we will have to assess everyone tomorrow.

“It is important to see where they all are, going into the game on Saturday, as they cannot be 30 or 40% ready, they have to be at 90 to 100%.

“It is up to myself to get the ones I feel have recovered from the virus ready for the Barrow game.”

Despite an unexpected break from matchdays, Adams feels the ambition has not wavered, and the drive for the second half of the season remains constant.

The City boss suggested he is only looking up, as the Bantams return to the field, and has his sights firmly set on the promotion chase.

He added: “From my point of view, we should have more points on the board.

“If we can turn the big chances that we do create into goals, then we should be further up the league.

“We are into the second half of the season and are ready to give it a really good go, to get ourselves into the promotion places.

“We start with a test on Saturday. Barrow are a good footballing side and gave us a difficult game in the return fixture, so will be up for the match.”

Tickets for Saturday's clash are SOLD OUT, with supporters asked not to travel without a valid match ticket.
