OPPOSITION GUIDE: NOTTINGHAM FOREST

11 August 2021

The Bantams will be aiming to secure their place in the second round of the Carabao Cup when travelling to The City Ground to take on Sky Bet Championship side Nottingham Forest this evening.

This will be the first meeting between the two sides since August 2010, which took place in the same stage of this very competition.

We have created an opposition guide to give you all the details you need to know about City’s opponents.

TRANSFER ACTIVITY

The East Midlands side have so far had a quiet summer in terms of players coming in, with only one signing on a permanent deal.

Also, Forest have seen a total of nine players depart - with three choosing to hang up their boots.

INCOMINGS: Ethan Hovarth (Club Brugge), Jordi Osei-Tutu (Arsenal, loan), Phillip Zinckernagel (Watford, loan).

OUTGOINGS: Abdoulaye Diallo (Released), Tyler Blackett (FC Cincinnati), Nikolas Ioannou (Como, loan), Yuri Roberto (Released), Michael Dawson (Retired), Michael Heffe (Retired), Samba Sow (Released), Sammy Ameobi (Middlesbrough), Glenn Murray (Retired).

ONES TO WATCH

Brennan Johnson

The Welsh international has been with the club since joining the youth academy as an eight-year-old in 2009, and eventually made his debut for the senior team in August 2019.

He spent last season on loan at Sky Bet League One side Lincoln City, where he contributed to 13 goals and 14 assists in all competitions.

The 20-year-old also provided an assist in his team’s opening league game over the weekend.

Joe Lolley

Since Lolley signed for Forest from Huddersfield Town in January 2018, he has contributed to 52 goals in total, scoring 26 and assisting 26.

The 28-year-old is mainly left-footed and can either play as a winger or operate just behind the striker.

Lyle Taylor

Despite only netting four times in his debut season at The City Ground, Taylor got off to a promising start to the campaign when scoring in Forest's opening Sky Bet Championship match away to Coventry City.

The frontman is an experienced operator, with over 400 career appearances to his name.

He has also often known where the back of the net is over the years, scoring close to 200 times.

CAPTAIN

With current club captain Lewis Grabban absent, Ryan Yates is most likely to take on the armband for this game.

Yates is a 23-year-old midfielder who has spent his entire career contracted to Forest, but has had loan spells at the likes of Barrow, Shrewsbury Town, Notts County, and Scunthorpe United.

He has so far made a total of 86 appearances for the East Midlands side.

MANAGER

Chris Hughton is an experienced manager who has overseen nearly 500 matches in the dugout.

Hughton has also enjoyed his fair share of success throughout his coaching career with previously getting Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion promoted to the Premier League.

He took charge of the Tricky Trees on 6th October 2020, guiding them to a 17th-placed finish in the Sky Bet Championship - in the 2020/21 season.

In his playing days, Hughton spent his entire career in London with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United, before finishing off his career at Brentford.
