13 August 2021

The Bantams are set to take on Oldham Athletic in their first home outing of the 2021/22 Sky Bet League Two season.

City will also be hoping to end their five-match winless run against the Latics when they welcome supporters back to the Utilita Energy Stadium for a competitive fixture for the first time since February 2020.

TEAM NEWS

City: The Bantams will be without Yann Songo’o, Oscar Threlkeld, and Levi Sutton due to injuries.

Finn Cousin Dawson is likely to retain his place at right-back and there is also a chance new signing Caolan Lavery will be included in the matchday squad - for the first time since signing for City.

Callum Cooke will make his 50th start in the league for the Bantams, if selected.

Oldham: The visitors have recently undergone troubles with COVID-19 which has had an effect on the squad.

Summer signings Jayson Leutwiler and Hallam Hope are continuing to self-isolate so will not be able to make their debuts for the Greater Manchester side tomorrow.

Former Bantam Alan Sheehan could be involved.

WHAT THE MANAGERS SAID

Latics manager Keith Curle will not be in the dugout for this match, due to testing positive for COVID-19. He will be replaced by his assistant Colin West.

Derek Adams: “We are all really looking forward to the game but, as great as the occasion will be, the most important thing is getting our first win of the season.

“We need to be at our best, and it is down to us to give our supporters something to cheer.

“This game will not be easy. Oldham are a very good team and we are well aware of their strengths.

“The majority of this squad have never played in front of our supporters in a competitive game, so it will be a special moment when they finally get to do this.”

Colin West: “This will be a very tough game, and we will have to approach it like we have the last two.

“Derek Adams is a great manager and he will certainly get his team up for it.

“We are coming into the game in good spirits after our penalty shoot-out victory in the Carabao Cup.

“Hopefully, we can get our first league win of the season and continue to grow in confidence.”

LAST TIME OUT

The previous meeting between the two sides saw them share the spoils in a goalless draw back in March.

This was the last of their four encounters throughout the 2020/21 campaign.
