30 April 2021

Charles Vernam is targeting positive results in the Bantams' final two games of the campaign - starting with their last home match of the season against Scunthorpe United tomorrow.

City will welcome the Iron to the Utilita Energy Stadium before travelling to the Mazuma Stadium to take on Morecambe next week, in what will be their final outing of the 2020/21 Sky Bet League Two campaign.

The 24-year-old stressed the importance of his side finishing the season strongly and believes they can take encouragement from their most recent performance against Salford City, despite defeat.

He said: “Picking up wins in our final two games would be fantastic for us.

“We need to make sure we go into next season with confidence and momentum.

“This group of players has shown how good it can be, and it is important we carry on believing we can turn our recent form around.

“Despite a frustrating defeat against Salford, the performance was much better and, hopefully, we can build on that.”

Vernam was also eager to mention his desire to add more goals and assists for the Bantams.

Since signing for City from Burton Albion on deadline day of the January transfer window, the Lincoln-born forward has contributed to two goals and one assist in 19 appearances.

He added: “My personal objective moving forward is to help the side out by adding more goals and assists.

“I am aware, as a forward, I will be judged on how many I score. I started off well on that front, but have not been able to match those levels since.

“I have been frustrated with myself at times for how I have played, but it is down to me to put it right and improve.

“Hopefully, in the last couple of games - and throughout next season - I can impress and prove my worth to this team.”
