Match-winner Anthony O’Connor lauded an “important” Bantams victory - following their 1-0 triumph over Grimsby Town in Sky Bet League Two.

The defender netted the winning goal just before half-time at the Utilita Energy Stadium, as Mark Trueman and Conor Sellars’ side stretched their unbeaten run to four games.

O’Connor was eager to mention the significance of his team gaining three points, despite not being at their strongest on the day.

He said: “We did not play our best but, at this stage of the season, gaining three points is the most important thing.

“Anyone can beat anyone in this league - and Grimsby did cause us problems - but, thankfully, we were able to see the game out.

“We have won plenty of points in the second half of the season, which is very pleasing.

“We just need to keep going and aim to finish as high as possible in the league table.”

The 28-year-old was also thrilled to score the decisive goal of the contest.

The former Aberdeen man netted his second league goal of the campaign - both both having come in hard-fought home victories.

He added: “Of course, it felt excellent to score the winning goal.

“The ball fell to me in a good position and, thankfully, I managed to get a decent enough connection for it to beat the goalkeeper.

“Again, the most important thing was that we won the game. I am very happy to have helped the team achieve this.

“We still have plenty of points to play for until the end of the season, so we need to try and gain as many as we can between now and then.”
