MAMMA MIA FEEDS FAMILIES IN BRADFORD

4 November 2020

Local restaurant and proud official partner Mamma Mia has provided 100 free school meals to youngsters and families in need.

Inspired by Manchester United star Marcus Rashford’s efforts to end child food poverty in the United Kingdom, the Italian eatery has cooked meals which have been distributed to five different Bradford schools.

Food has been delivered to Backfield Acadmey (BD4), Howard Park Primary (BD19), Low Ash Primary (BD2), Peel Park Primary (BD2) and St Stephen’s Primary School (BD5) by Bradford City Community Foundation’s Qasim Akhtar.

On the basis of each school receiving 20 meals, and each child receiving two meals, a total of 50 different families have been fed across the district.

This comes after the club provided over 750 free meals to youngsters in need - over last week’s October half-term.

Mamma Mia’s Leno Massimo said: “Heading into another COVID-19 lockdown, we thought about who would need feeding the most, and it is great to be able to give something back to these people.

“Marcus Rashford and his work has inspired all of us and led to a huge movement across the country, which we are hugely proud to be on board with.

“Anyone who knows us, as a family and a business, will know we have always tried to do our bit for the community and give back as much as we can to other people and establishments in the surrounding area - over the past 35 years.”

Akhtar added: “We had a fantastic week of supporting over 150 families with more than 750 hot meals during the half-term break.

“On the back of this, Mamma Mia has kindly donated a further 100 meals to support the great work going on.

“The food they have donated will support a further 50 families during these difficult times.

“Unfortunately, it does not seem like the situation is getting better anytime soon, and with the second national lockdown coming into force tomorrow, there are many people who will rely on the support of others.

“This may come through the continuation of food packages, hot meals or general support, and I would like to take this opportunity to reassure our community that we at Bradford City Football Club will continue to support them in whichever way we can.

“I would like to thank Mamma Mia for their fantastic support of Bradford City.”
