BOWYER: ‘BANTAMS MUST BE BETTER’

28 January 2020

Gary Bowyer has called for a reaction from his players - ahead of this evening’s meeting with Cheltenham Town (7.45pm).

City welcome the Robins to the Utilita Energy Stadium on the back of a defeat to Mansfield Town at the weekend.

After describing the performance at the One Call Stadium as his side’s “worst of the season”, Bowyer is determined to put things right tonight.

He said: “We have to be a lot better against Cheltenham, in terms of how we apply ourselves, first and foremost.

“Performance-wise, we have not been good enough over the past few games.

“We have been in on Sunday and Monday and had open, honest and frank discussions.

“A lot of positive things came out in our conversations and we went about our business well.

“It is important we put Saturday to bed and look forward to tonight’s game.”

Despite what he admits has proved a disappointing recent period on the pitch for City, Bowyer is confident in himself and his players to turn the events around.

He expects to make changes to his squad which he believes will be of benefit, and insists he and the side are still well-equipped to enjoy a successful season.

The City chief added: “I have been involved in football my whole life, with this is my third club as a manager.

“Personally, I will never duck responsibility. I know we have not been good enough.

“We are working very hard and I will continue to the back the players, knowing they will give me the same.

“There are times in the transfer window, both in terms of incomings and outgoings, where things come to your attention which you have to act upon.

“Everything we do over the next week will be in the best interest of the football club.

“We all need to stick together as a club and be there for each other.

“No one wants the best for Bradford City more than I do. I can guarantee you I want success for this football club more than anyone else.”
