Bradford City Disability Football Club's women's team attended the opening round of the Female Football Series last Saturday - at Aston Villa Football Club.
The event - first held at the Premier League side's Villa Park home on February 15 - provides an opportunity for disabled female footballers aged 16 and over to play competitive football.
Sides from Birmingham County FA, Sheffield & Hallamshire FA, West Riding FA, Leicestershire & Rutland County FA and Staffordshire FA were all present for the opening round.
Over the course of the day, teams were split into two divisions with silver and bronze categories available - corresponding to the mobility and understanding of players within each team.
Both divisions’ competitions went down to the wire, with the hosts, Villa, eventually emerging victorious - lifting both trophies on offer.
Overall, the event saw a huge amount to celebrate, with special guests in attendance and other activities on offer ensuring lasting memories were taken away.
Renowned football freestyler, Charlotte Lade, appeared - showcasing her skills before running a skills workshop for all participants.
The event was also boosted by the attendance of Aston Villa Women players Kerri Welsh, Marisa Ewers and Natalie Haigh, who mingled with those involved and posed for selfies.
In addition, Aston Villa Foundation established a Fun Zone on one of the facility’s pitches, which allowed all attending to take part in football challenges and have fun with team-mates between matches.
Jasbir Batt, football development officer (disability) at Birmingham County FA, said: “Birmingham County FA - in conjunction with Aston Villa - were delighted that teams had the opportunity to play against teams they have never played before.
"It was a different environment for many and came across as a hugely positive experience for all, overall.
“We were also delighted to have a number of special guests attend the event, as it was a great chance to showcase role models within the game, both locally and nationally, whether it be professional players or freestylers.
“Birmingham County FA has highlighted the importance of creating events like these to ensure limited opportunities for adult female footballers with disabilities become eventual unlimited opportunities.”
The next round of fixtures will be hosted by Sheffield & Hallamshire FA on Saturday March 14 - at St George's Park Sheffield Graves.
