BIG MATCH PREVIEW: BOLTON v CITY

3 September 2019

The Bantams are back on the road this evening, heading to the University of Bolton Stadium as City's Leasing.com Trophy campaign gets underway.

Gary Bowyer’s side faces a short break from league proceedings, with the cup offering a chance for his side to return to winning ways.

Likewise, after a strong week of positivity all around, Bolton will be confident going into tonight's clash.

Jimmy Phillips has been asked to oversee the tie, although the new management team of Keith Hill and David Flitcroft will have an input.

Ahead of tonight’s tie, we have compiled a Big Match Preview - packed full of everything you need to know...

TEAM NEWS

City: Gary Bowyer is expected to ring the changes from the side defeated at Crewe Alexandra.

Competition rules state four players must retain their places from the last fixture, meaning there are opportunities for other members of his new-look squad to feature.

Harry Pritchard could make his first start for the Bantams, after featuring from the bench against the Railwaymen. Zeli Ismail is also in contention for an appearance this evening.

Bolton: It has been a busy 24 hours for the Lancashire outfit, after Football Ventures completed their takeover of the club just days before the transfer deadline.

Bolton were very active yesterday, bringing in nine new faces, so some may be in line for the match this evening – if registered before yesterday’s 12.00pm cut-off point.

WHAT THE MANAGERS SAID

Gary Bowyer: "You have to choose a team that fits with the rules and regulations, including a number of those who featured against Crewe.

“Team selection will very much be focused around those rules, which we will analyse and go from there."

Keith Hill: “I will be there tonight, encouraging the young players. I want them to show the characteristics they have shown in the last few weeks and that they can be brave and creative in a football sense.

“If they start doing that tonight I’ll be happy.”

LAST TIME OUT

The Bantams last played Bolton in February 2017, in a thrilling 2-2 Sky Bet League One contest.

As both teams pushed for a promotion challenge, Charlie Wyke’s opening two goals set the Bantams up well going into the break.

But David Wheater and Gary Madine rescued a point for Phil Parkinson's men, in his first game back at Valley Parade.

MATCH OFFICIALS

Martin Coy will take charge of the tie, having last officiated the Bantams away at Charlton Athletic last season.

Gareth Mellor and Daniel Woodward will run the lines, with Chris Isherwood as fourth official.
