WOMEN ROMP TO RIPON VICTORY

19 November 2019

Bradford City Women recorded their first victory since the opening day of the season with a 6-0 thrashing of Ripon City in the second round of the West Riding County Cup.

After both sides were given a first-round bye, a Falone Sumaili hat-trick - over Women's Football Weekend - saw the Bantams progress into the third round.

City were dominant throughout at the club's Woodhouse Grove training base and - after having a goal chalked off for offside on five minutes - broke the dealock, through Sumaili.

The striker was on hand to guide Ellie Prothero's pinpoint corss from the left into the far post, handing her side the initiative.

The hosts pushed hard to try and breach the resolute Ripon defence once more and, just before the interval, were rewarded.

The goal was a near-carbon copy of the first, which Prothero crossing for Sumaili who doubled her and the home side's tally.

The Bantams made a blistering start to the second period and, within five minutes of the restart, had gone 4-0 up.

Beth Shepherd and Harriet Jakeman got in on the act to put the tie out of the visitors' reach.

Despite having to complete the final 30 minutes with 10 players, City would still add another two goals, to wrap up a 6-0 victory.

First, Sumaili completed her hat-trick - her second of the campaign - before Masie Norde secured the Bantams' passage into the third round with an unstoppabe 25-yard drive.

Newly-appointed manager Chris Hames' side will play host to Thackley Ladies in the third round of the competition - on Sunday December 15.
