UNDER-18s BATTLE TO LINCOLN VICTORY

18 November 2019

City’s under-18s extended their unbeaten run to six games - following a 1-0 victory at Lincoln City.

Charlie Wood's second-half strike saw the young Bantams clinch all three points in an otherwise tight affair - with chances scarce, for both sides.

The first opportunity of the game did not come until the seventh minute, through Wood.

The attacker found himself unmarked - in the box - to meet Hayden Smethurst's cross, though could not direct his headed effort on target.

After a quiet first half, the next clear-cut opportunity fell to the home side - and did not come until the 49th minute.

Imps midfielder Tobias Liversidge was left free on the edge of the area before striking towards goal, forcing a save out of Bantams goalkeeper Tom Donaghy.

And five minutes, later Donaghy was under pressure once more - with Lewis Inglis, this time, trying his luck.

The No.10 weaved his way through the defenders before lashing goalwards, however the man between City's sticks stood strong and forced the effort away for a corner.

Pressure started to build on the visitors, as Tom Shaw’s side were presented with another opening - from the following corner.

The ball was whipped in from the right however, after a goal-line scramble, the City defence kept the home side at bay.

Despite the second-half scare, Mark Trueman’s team broke the deadlock - courtesy of Wood.

The No.10 was left free in the area, once more, to head Wade Ripley's cross in off the post, with 21 minutes remaining.

After the goal, neither side seemed able to conjure a chance, meaning Trueman's young Bantams returned to West Yorkshire with the victory.
