LADIES DISABILITY TEAM SCOOP TOP PRIZE

8 March 2019

Bradford City ladies’ disability team were honoured last night at the fourth annual Bradford Sports Awards.

They picked up the award for non-professional Team of the Year and were nominated for a further award, in the category for Sporting Highlight of the Year.

The ladies team is the first female disability football team in Bradford, having been formed last year.

In that time, they were the only Yorkshire-based ladies side to compete in the FA People’s Cup. After entering the competition in February, 2018, they reached the final at St George’s Park - finishing as runners-up.

Ageing from 17 to 38, the ladies came together to overcome many barriers and produce some amazing memories.

Their silverware is now on display at the National Football Museum in Manchester, as part of the new exhibition ‘The Game of our Lives’.

City’s disability liaison officer Jaimie Dorward said: “I am so proud of the team and everything they have achieved over the past year.

“Their success has inspired others to try football and we have seen an uptake in younger girls coming down to our sessions.

“This has been very encouraging to see and we hope to continue our success in the future.”
