McCARTAN PREPARED FOR MORECAMBE ‘BATTLE’

Shay McCartan insists City must be prepared to battle for back-to-back victories, ahead of their New Year’s Day visit of Morecambe.

The forward made his first league start in claret and amber since May 2018 as the Bantams extended their unbeaten run to six matches at home to Mansfield Town, in their final game of 2019.

And McCartan is confident - despite the challenge facing them - he and his team-mates will be able to continue building momentum, when entertaining the Shrimps.

He said: “Morecambe will come here and it may be a little bit like a cup final, for them.

“We have a great stadium to play in with the biggest capacity in the league, and a lot more supporters than most other teams in this division.

“Morecambe may up their game a little bit and we have to be prepared to battle with them and give it our all. It will be a difficult game.

“They are down near the bottom of the league but are a decent side who gave us a difficult game at their ground, a few months ago.

“But, if we play the way we did against Mansfield, I am confident in being able to get the win.”

McCartan his hoping City’s supporters can have a similar effect on their side, tomorrow, to the one they had for the visit of the Stags.

A season-high attendance of 15,197 flocked to Utilita Energy Stadium on Sunday, and the former Accrington Stanley man is expecting another healthy turnout.

“The supporters will come in higher numbers the better we do,” the 25-year-old added.

“You saw that against Mansfield, with with our biggest attendance of the season.

“The supporters were fantastic on Sunday and proved our 12th man. Hopefully, we can give them another victory on New Year’s Day.

“There should be a great atmosphere with it being a Bank Holiday fixture over the festive period. There should be a lot here again and we are looking forward to it.”
