David Hopkin has stressed the importance of being “mentally ready” ahead of the Bantams’ Emirates FA Cup first round game against Aldershot tomorrow (3.00pm).
City travel to Hampshire looking to book a place in the second round of the competition, taking on a side placed 13th in the National League.
And Bantams head coach Hopkin is demanding focus from his side.
Hopkin said: “We need to go to Aldershot and give them the respect they deserve. It is going to be a hard game and we need to ensure we are mentally ready.
“The FA Cup gives us a chance to get a break from the league. It is something we are looking forward to.
“The players are in good spirits. Last Saturday’s performance, against Portsmouth, has given us a lot of hope in terms of where we are wanting to go.
“This week has been very positive. Everyone has been training hard and, with a few players returning, it brings healthy competition for places.
“We know we have to go and win a battle. We cannot just turn up and think we will get a result. Our mindset has to be right.”
Adam Chicksen will miss the trip to the EBB Stadium - after being dismissed last weekend.
But Hopkin is hoping to welcome back Jim O’Brien into his matchday squad, with Danny Devine nearing a return to action.
“Adam will be missed but Connor Wood comes back into the reckoning,” he added.
“Jim (O’Brien) has trained all week, so he will be back in the mix, and Danny (Devine) is back from a toe injury.
“We will travel with a strong squad and I will be picking a team that can get us the result we want.”
Meanwhile, the club can today confirm the departure of goalkeeper coach Steve Banks, who has spent two years with the club.
Hopkin said: “I would like to thank Steve for all of his efforts during my time here. I wish him the very best for the future.”
