The Bantams have swooped to snap up talented defender Joe Riley from Premier League side Manchester United.

The 21-year-old has signed a two-year deal at the Northern Commercials Stadium.

Subject to the usual clearances from the EFL and The FA, Riley's contract with City will come into effect from 1 July.

The right-back, who is also comfortable playing in midfield, skippered Man United's U23s side last season.

Riley has featured twice for Man Utd's first team in the past. He made his senior debut for the Red Devils during their FA Cup fifth round tie at Shrewsbury Town in February 2016.

The defender then started United's Europa League tie with Midtjylland at Old Trafford four days later.

Riley already has previous experience of playing in Sky Bet League One after a loan spell with Sheffield United in early 2017.

Speaking about Riley's arrival, Head of Recruitment Greg Abbott said: "Joe has been on our list of potential signings for a long time now.

"He ticks a lot of boxes in terms of the way the club wants to go and he really fits the model.

"He was well thought of at Manchester United and he was very unlucky during a loan spell at Sheffield United.

"He was flying at the time but unfortunately got a shoulder injury.

"He has bags of pace and energy, he is a forward-thinking, attacking full-back.

"Joe has always been high up on our list for that position."
