BRUENKER IS A BANTAM!

25 January 2018

The Bantams have boosted their attacking options by signing powerful striker Kai Bruenker.

The 23 year-old German has penned a deal with City that will keep him at the Northern Commercials Stadium until the end of 2018/2019 season.

The imposing centre forward moves to the Bantams for an undisclosed fee from SC Freiburg.

He will wear squad number 21 for the remainder of this season.

Bruenker had been with previous club SC Freiburg since 2015 after joining them from FC 08 Villingen.

The robust attacker trained with his new City team-mates at Apperley Bridge this Thursday ahead of Saturday's home fixture with AFC Wimbledon.

Bruenker's move to Valley Parade is subject to international clearance.

Speaking about the arrival of Bruenker, Head of Recruitment Greg Abbott said: "One of the main reasons for bringing a player like Kai into the football club is that he can give some protection to Charlie (Wyke).

"Charlie played four games in a short period of time over Christmas and sometimes bore the brunt of two opposing centre halves on his own.

"Kai is a big, strong, powerful player, and he is someone who our European scouting network has identified as a option to allow us to rest Charlie as and when needed.

"Charlie is an important player and we don't want to over-work him if we can avoid it.

"Kai is another physical option for us in attack. We have sometimes struggled in that department, especially when Charlie has been out through injury.

"Kai in his own right has to come into the building, develop his game and prove that he can claim a place in the team on merit.

"He is extremely excited to get started - he has a fantastic attitude.

"He is determined to be a success here. We can't wait to get working with him now and really try to develop him.

"This is the start of what we hope will be an eventful few days for the club.

"We are hopeful of making one or two more signings soon to go with Kai.

"Kai comes in to be part of the jigsaw and part of the squad that Stuart (McCall) will need to help improve our results and improve our position going forwards."
