NORTHERN IRELAND SECURE SECOND SPOT

5 September 2017

Northern Ireland secured second spot in Group C this Monday evening with a 2-0 win over Czech Republic at Windsor Park.

Bantams attacker Shay McCartan was an unused substitute for the fixture.

Following their spell away on international duty, McCartan and fellow Bantam Adam Thompson will now report back for training with City this week ahead of the match at Peterborough United on Saturday.

For Thompson, training this week will be his first involvement with City since securing a season-long loan move to the Northern Commercials Stadium from Bury last week.

Northern Ireland claimed victory in front of their home supporters thanks to first half goals from West Bromwich Albion duo Chris Brunt and Jonny Evans.

Eight of the nine European group runners-up will make the play-offs, meaning Michael O'Neill's side have a great chance now of playing for a place in the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
