HANSON SHORTLISTED FOR CHECKATRADE TROPHY PLAYER OF THE ROUND AWARD

22 September 2017

Following the completion of the opening round of fixtures in the Checkatrade Trophy, the shortlist for the first Player of the Round competition has been revealed with City defender Jacob Hanson making the final five.

You can vote for the Bantams man here EFL.com/playeroftheround and if he takes home the trophy, you could have the honour of presenting the award to him and winning tickets to the Checkatrade Trophy final.*

Making his senior debut at left-back even though he normally plays on the right, 19-year-old Hanson looked assured in defence all night. He also impressed going forward, using his pace and scoring with an assured finish in the 4-2 victory at Chesterfield.

This week’s conclusion of the opening matchday brings to a close a goal-filled first round of games with 114 goals going in across the 32 fixtures that took place up and down the country. Last year’s finalists Oxford got off to a winning start with an impressive 6-2 victory at Stevenage and the round featured a series of high scoring thrillers, including a dramatic 4-3 away win for AFC Wimbledon at The Hive London against Barnet.

The Checkatrade Trophy Player of the Round shortlist for the first group stage matches is as follows:

  • Rob Hall – Oxford United
  • Jacob Hanson – Bradford City
  • Callum Hudson-Odoi - Chelsea
  • Brad Inman – Rochdale
  • Dominic Telford - Bristol Rovers

The Checkatrade Trophy Player of the Round competition gives fans the opportunity to vote for the player they feel shined in the first round of fixtures.

An independent football expert will select the five worthy players that will make up the shortlist each round, before supporters have the chance to vote for the final two via EFL.com. The two players with the most votes will then be considered by a judging panel consisting of representatives from the EFL, before the overall winner is revealed on Monday 2 October.

Every fan who votes will be entered into a prize draw, with one lucky supporter getting the chance to present the Checkatrade Trophy Player of the Round award to the winning player and win tickets to the final of the competition at Wembley in April.

Fans have until 9:00am on Tuesday 26 September to register their votes for the inaugural award. To vote for the player you feel deserves to be the Checkatrade Trophy Player of the Round, please visit EFL.com/playeroftheround.
