Jordy Hiwula's header from a Nicky Law corner just before the half hour mark cancelled out Cody McDonald's twelfth-minute opener for Gillingham to earn McCall's men a share of the spoils.
Although Stephen Darby was required to bravely block Max Ehmer's close range effort in the second period, City looked the more likely to trouble the scorers again for the most part following Hiwula's leveller.
McCall felt that City's inability to finish off their pleasing build-up play with a suitable shot or final pass, however, was the reason the Bantams weren't able to celebrate another away-day win this season.
McCall said: "I thought the performance from the lads in the first half was excellent.
"Coming in at half time, I felt that if we could keep the quality and tempo up then we'd be confident of going on to get the win.
"Because we've not got that win though, there is a slight feeling of frustration and disappointment in the dressing room afterwards.
"Looking on the positive side, coming from a goal down away from home, it is another good point to the total.
"We played a lot of great stuff, we carried a good threat, but we just lacked that final ball.
"We also defended well when we had to do. The throw-ins into the box here (from Ryan Jackson) are like corners at times.
"Once we've gone behind, we've shown great resiliency and played some good stuff.
"It was just that final bit of quality we needed in the box to finish off one of the moves when engineered throughout the game.
"The final shot or final pass just let us down a little bit today (Saturday).
"We came here looking for all three points from this game but this result at least still keeps the unbeaten run going."
After having to deal with limited numbers for City's games up until this weekend, McCall was able to name a strong bench for arguably the first time this season at Gillingham.
Filipe Morais, the fit-again James Hanson and recent loan signing Marc McNulty were all introduced during the second half by McCall. Fellow deadline day recruit Haris Vuckic was an unused substitute.
McCall added: "We have a lot of options now.
"We'll have another week's worth of training next week for Hanson and McNulty. Rory (McArdle) and possibly Tony (McMahon) will feature in the reserves at Hartlepool United on Tuesday.
"There were a lot of good individuals performances out there this afternoon - everyone knows now that they have to perform week in, week out because we have a lot of good players becoming available again.
"It was good to have that quality on the bench today and those different options - we couldn't even get Haris (Vuckic) on the pitch."
